Briar Patch 3D Model

In 2024, I visited Disneyland and was surprised to see this sign still standing long after Splash Mountain had closed. I thought it would be a fun modeling and printing exercise, so I decided to recreate it.

As much as I wanted to stay completely accurate to the original, I had to consider the practical aspects of printing, molding, and shipping. To ensure durability, all of the briars had to be connected directly to the sign for added strength and stability.

The original plan was to make it a fridge magnet, but I had just purchased an Elegoo Jupiter resin printer and realized I could go much bigger. I scaled it up to a 10-inch version, which gave me the chance to add more detail. Shortly after, I received a request for a custom sign… Something even larger. I pushed the size to nearly two feet. To make it manageable, I cut the model into four pieces using Meshmixer and printed the entire thing in resin to avoid the heavy sanding that PLA prints require.
